Gypsum in Construction Through the Ages

Gypsum is a natural mineral composed of calcium and sulfur (CaSO₄·2H₂O), found in natural deposits. Its use as a building material dates back to ancient times, with traces of gypsum mortar discovered in the pyramids and Roman structures. The recognition of gypsum’s advantages eventually led to its widespread adoption, making gypsum boards an essential part of modern construction.

Gypsum Products - All the Advantages

Gypsum has numerous advantages placing it in the forefront of building materials. It has a smooth finish, is attractive and of high quality, together with a high thermal and acoustic insulation level. Its fire resistance affords protection for flammable or heat-sensitive substances, making it a preferred building material for residential, office and industrial structures.

Breathing Walls for Better Indoor Comfort

Gypsum’s porosity property enables the creation of “breathing” walls and partitions, i.e. a high level of moisture is retained by the blocks under humid environmental conditions and expelled from the wall when the surroundings become drier. This property increases climatic comfort within buildings constructed with gypsum blocks.
